Scene: Brooklyn is a film and media arts program presented by the Brooklyn Arts Council. The event features work by Brooklyn filmmakers of all disciplines, and I am proud to be managing the festival and heading up the programming department. Four programs of documentaries, narrative shorts and artist films with a Brooklyn perspective will be screening at Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO Brooklyn on May 4th, and 5th. May 6th is our Brooklyn filmmakers panel and closing reception featuring some of Brooklyn's most respected filmmakers including Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo, Chop Shop), Tia Lessin (Trouble the Water), Cruz Angeles (Don't Let Me Drown), Ryan Fleck and Anna Bowden (Half Nelson, Sugar). 2009 is the first year of a new focus for the Arts Council who have been presenting films in Brooklyn for over fourty years.

left_menu_01.gifPackage Deals is a multidisciplinary music and film screening series bringing the best in film, art and music videos from selected cities and places around the world to New York City. Following a program's premiere, it then evolves into a "Touring Package," which travels to international art house theaters and film festivals in the months to come. Each part of the series showcases feature films, shorts, music videos, and more from the world's most vibrant creative communities.

In addition to Package Deals' regular screenings and tour events, we have partnered with the Icelandic Tourism Board and Iceland Naturally to program and produce the film festival component of their touring Icelandic Culture Week, which brings Icelandic cuisine, music, art and films to major cities across North America.

To date, Package Deals has explored Iceland, Sweden and the Scandinavian and North American music scenes through their short film and music video programs. Support and guidance has been provided by institutions such as the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, The Tank, The Icelandic Tourism Board, Scandinavia House, The American Scandinavian Foundation, the Icelandic Film Center, The Center For Icelandic Art and companies such as Reyka Vodka and Svedka Vodka.
